Küberit® eco pro³- the ecological choice
Therefore we have introduced a series of measures in the past years. The concept eco pro³ stands for its sustainable acting as well as for the professional development of high-quality profiles with high utility value for processors and building owners. At the same time, the new label makes clear that the Küberit® profiles and mouldings from closed recycling process are a surprising ecological choice.
Collect, sort, recycle, reuse – the formula for our aluminium profiles.
Aluminium is valuable. We manufacture our profiles from certified recycled aluminium. This is good for nature, good for the CO2 balance and good for quality.
Küberit® processes around 1500 tonnes of high-quality aluminium profiles of the alloy AlMgSi0.5 (AW-6060) per year. In 2018, the Lüdenscheid-based company started using high-quality, recycled secondary aluminium for its profiles – initially for a few products. After no complaints came from the market due to the material quality, the conversion of the entire product range was started. Currently, Küberit® processes about 25% primary and 75% recycled, i.e. secondary aluminium. Due to this high percentage, Küberit® products have a remarkably good CO2 footprint. The goal of the Lüdenscheid-based company is to further reduce the share of primary aluminium in the coming years.
Secondary aluminium from a closed cycle
The processing of secondary aluminium conserves valuable resources, relieves the burden on nature and helps to reduce CO2 emissions. How considerable this contribution is becomes clear when one considers the resource- and energy-intensive process for the extraction of primary aluminium (more about this www.aluinfo.de/recycling.html). Therefore, Küberit® is committed to a closed production cycle: The accruing production scrap (new scrap) is directly fed into recycling – this not only saves resources, but also relieves landfills and reduces emissions.
Contemporary recycling for high quality
With strict quality guidelines and close-meshed controls, the profile specialist ensures the high quality of its products and thus guarantees a long service life. When selecting its suppliers, the company applies high environmental criteria and exclusively cooperates with pressing and anodising plants within the European customs union, which are certified according to the latest standards and follow the same environmental philosophy; in addition, long sea routes are avoided. In the pressing plants, Küberit® mostly uses hydrobolts from Norway as pre-material. Their production with electricity from hydropower improves the CO2 balance enormously.

Sustainable action is a commitment
In addition to the changes in production and the renunciation of material from countries where aluminium is produced with a significantly worse energy and environmental balance, such as China, the large storage capacity in Lüdenscheid and the improvement of internal processes in administration also play a major role. The measures for sustainable, resource-saving management are so extensive and diverse that Küberit® has combined them under eco pro³ in order to be able to drive them forward in a more targeted manner in the future.
